River Parishes Hospital held its annual Young At Art Reception on Thursday, December 13 at 6:30 pm in the hospital’s Medical Pavilion. All monthly winners were recognized and the overall 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-place winners were announced. Tammy Waltz, Marketing Assistant and Coordinator of the Young At Art Program, welcomed all of the students and their families, and gave a brief history of the program.

“River Parishes Hospital prides itself on being the community hospital for the river parishes area,” said Waltz. “We implemented this program in an effort to promote community involvement in the hospital, and to invite residents to visit the hospital on a “happier” occasion. She continued, “Every child is a budding artist. This

program gives them an opportunity to express themselves and their creativity.”

Waltz recognized each of the monthly winners and gave them a monogrammed frame to display their artwork. She went on to explain that all of the winners are chosen, not on any select criteria, but arbitrarily by hospital and community leaders. Judges are asked to simply select the picture that they feel is the “best.” Some are chosen by how well they are drawn and how colorful they are. Others are chosen by the story that is told through the picture.

“We all know that art is very subjective,” continued Waltz. “We want all of our artists to know that we feel they are winners for taking the time to draw a picture for us to put on display for the community to enjoy.”

Waltz then announced the 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-place winners. 1st-place was awarded to Jesse Bryant (pictured above), who was a student at Norco 4-6 Elementary School. Albert Hane and Laura Tracy (at right), students at Ascension of Our Lord School, won 2nd- and 3rd-place, respectively. Winners were awarded $150, $100, and $50 savings bonds, respectively.

To close the celebration, Waltz thanked everyone for coming to the celebration and invited them to visit the hospital’s “Wall of Art” and select the pictures they feel are the “best.”

“The Wall of Art is a very impressive display,” said Waltz. “We would like to invited all of you be our judges for the evening and see if you can select the winners that will be awarded for December.”
